Discover more than three miles of trails on 625 acres. Abundant wildflowers, amazing fungi, and scenic views change with every season. North Woods wildlife, including 130 bird species, a beaver colony, black bear, and bobcat have been seen here.
Groomed and interpreted trails include:
- Mill Pond Trail Loop*: Starts near the David A. Armour Visitor’s Center and sawmill site, circling the main exhibit area and Mill Pond. .5 mile; walking time: 15 minutes.
- Mill Pond Spur*: A short spur of the Mill and Loop near Mill Creek, featuring views of the water and limestone bluff. Distance: .1 mile.
- Evergreen Loop*: Winds through the North Woods along the bluff, with views of Mill Creek from above. Includes the Sounds of the Forest interactive exhibit. Distance: .75 mile; Walking Time: 25 minutes.
- Beaver Pond Loop*: A longer loop through the woodlands, with old beaver ponds visible through the trees. A small marsh is home to wetland birds and wildflowers. Distance: 1.5 miles; Walking time: 45 minutes
- Beaver Pond Spur*: A short spur of the Beaver Pond Loop leads down a hill near the banks of Mill Creek.
- Sugar Shack Forest Loop*: Follow this .5 mile loop through a hardwood forest that features large maple trees, glacial erratic boulders, and a maple sugar shack exhibit.
- Aspen-Wildlife Loop*: This .5 mile loop winds through a mixed aspen woodland. Look for ruffed grouse, white-tailed deer, woodcock, and wildflowers.

- Walking times are only estimates. Your experience may vary due to weather, photography, or other factors.
- Walk quietly and use your senses to experience the North Woods.
- Stay safe - take your time and remain on marked trails.
- Take precautions to avoid pesky insects and poison ivy. Be prepared for changing weather.
- Please do not pick or damage any of the park’s plants, including birch trees.
- Always keep your pets on a leash to respect others and protect wildlife.
- Please recycle or deposit litter in proper receptacles.
- Remember that Historic Mill Creek is home to many plants and animals - we are the guests.
